About

Atelier Van Asseldonk is proud to announce that we have been commissioned to design and create a memorial for PSV. A memorial that springs from the very foundations of Eindhoven. The city, shaped by Philips, where light became industry, where craftsmanship merged with progress.

Here, a culture of making grew, driven by craftsmen and innovators. From that same foundation, the Philips Sport Vereniging (Philips Sports Association) emerged. Not just as a football club, but as a symbol of solidarity, work ethic, and the inexhaustible drive to innovate.

I’ve been a PSV supporter since childhood and have been a part of PSV’s rich history. For this project, I had the opportunity to delve deeper into this. From the first wooden stand and the adjacent Philipsdorp to the iconic players and unforgettable matches, my team and I delved into archives, stadium stories, and supporter traditions. We analyzed how the club intertwined with the rhythm of the city, how light, technology, and football combined to form a culture. This research forms the basis of our design; a layered narrative in form, material, and symbolism.

The monument embodies the recognizable signature of our studio, carried by the craftsmanship of our makers. It is not just an object, but a tribute to identity: the history of the club, the pride of Eindhoven, and the current community that lives and protects this heritage. The design seamlessly blends craftsmanship and contemporary technology. It consists of an interconnected whole of thousands of unique components that, when assembled, form the whole. In this way, the monument reflects both Eindhoven’s manufacturing culture and the quiet, ongoing innovation that characterizes the city and the club.
